Case study 2: Design of Wing Sub-system for a Leading Aircraft Manufacturer

Client

The Client was one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers, based in Europe.

Business Issue

The Client was developing a very large aircraft, in order to corner the niche market for such aircrafts. Due to the sheer size of the aircraft, the design and development program was highly complex, involving many vendors. The Client was faced with the challenge of achieving the target weight for the aircraft design while meeting the tough program timelines.

How Infosys Helped

Infosys designed the Wing Sub-system (Inner Fixed Trailing Edge (IFTE) Skin Extensions) right from the Concept stage to DFM. Infosys took complete ownership of the work package, independently balancing work with vendors of other interacting sub-systems, thus resulting in low program management overhead for the Client. Infosys was able to optimize the weight of the subsystem beyond specifications.

Infosys delivered the following to the client

  • Evaluation of design alternatives/configurations
  • Sizing and Design of skins, stringers & stiffeners
  • Optimization
  • FE Analysis and Stress checks
  • Data for Manufacture
  • Documentation (supporting) for certification
