Take Carol Bartz for example, she has gradually moved up through the world, and is now the CEO of Yahoo. It shows how things have changed since Bartz first started out in 1976. After going to work at the manufacturing conglomerate 3M, she left after her request to transfer to the headquarters was denied.

She was told that "women don't do these jobs."

When in 1992, Bartz became CEO of Autodesk she was credited by Forbes, who said that she "transformed Autodesk from an aimless maker of PC software into a leader of computer-aided design software, targeting architects and builders."

Bartz became CEO of Yahoo on the 13 January 2009, succeeding co-founder, Jerry Yang, where she has continued to shake things up. It's during Bartz's time, that Yahoo agreed a merger with Microsoft back at the end of July.

Another example to look at, is Heather Harde, the CEO of TechCrunch. She's spent the last 10 years working within News Corporation. Most recently, she was part of the founding team at Fox Interactive Media and theirSVP Mergers & Acquisitions. Her team spent over $1.3 billion on eight acquisitions and two equity deals during her tenure. Their acquisitions spanned pre-launch start-ups all the way through to public-company and pre-IPO buyouts. Prior to Fox Interactive Media, she held a variety of posts at News America Marketing, TVGuide and ASkyB. Before News Corporation, she also worked for Viacom at Showtime Networks.

These are just two more examples of these women, whose success in business is nothing short of inspirational.
