For many, Richard Branson is a hero, and I can certainly include myself in this group. A self-made man is someone you can look up to, someone who has worked hard to achieve what he has today.
In 2009, Branson was named the 261st richest person according to Forbes' 2009 list of billionaires, with an estimated net worth of GBP£1.5 billion. At the age of 16, Branson had his first successful business venture, when he published a magazine called 'Student'. 1970 saw him setting up an audio record mail-order business, then in 1972, he opened a chain of record stores which was originally known as 'Virgin Records'
From the 1980s, Branson's Virgin brand grew rapidly, as he set up Virgin Atlantic Airways, and expanded the Virgin Records music label. From the late 60s when his first business was set up, until present day, Branson keeps on going, and keeps on adding to that empire of his.
